The Braidwood Lions Club is proud to offer the Edward Solberg Memorial Music Scholarship to honor the life, passion and legacy of Lion Edward Solberg whose love for music and commitment to community service left a lasting impact on those around him.  Edward was a 20-year member of the Lions Club in Sparta Wisconsin.  His son Scott and Daughter-in-Law Heide are active members of the Braidwood Lions Club and are sponsoring this scholarship in Edward’s memory.

 

This scholarship is designed to support a graduating high school senior who plans to pursue a college degree in music and who demonstrates both musical excellence and a dedication to service.

 

Scholarship Overview:

 

This scholarship recognizes students who not only show strong musical talent and academic promise, but also reflect the Lions Club’s values of leadership, compassion and community involvement.  Through this award, the Lions Club seeks to encourage young musicians to continue using their gifts to inspire others and contribute positively to their communities.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

 

Applicants must:

  • Be a graduating Reed-Custer High School senior.

  • Plan to enroll in an accredited college, university or conservatory with a major or focus in music.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to music through performance, study or leadership (band, choir, orchestra, private study, or community music involvement).

  • Exhibit good academic standing.

  • Show a history of community service.

 

Selection Criteria:

 

Applicants should submit a short essay (500 word maximum) highlighting their musical achievements, community involvement and future goals in music.  Recipients will be selected based on all essays submitted and chosen by the Braidwood Lions Club.  Applications will be coordinated thru the Reed Custer High School Guidance Department.

 

One (1) $500.00 scholarship will be awarded.
